Ugh Boots - Fashion Fur, or Faux Pas?
In
the late 60s, early 70s, citizens of Australia began sporting sheepskin
footwear that later came to be known as ugh boots. These trendy
shoes have been scoring high and low on the fashion charts for almost 45
years now, but ugg boots have never gone away. Indeed, they seem to
perpetually be making a comeback. Perhaps that's because of the
comfortable Australian sheepskin from which they're made. Ugg is
actually a native Australian word for the rare leather, and so the term
refers to numerous different brands of boot. In recent years, though,
the word has been co-opted by many manufacturers hoping to cash in on
the trend, and so discount ugg boots can now be found practically
everywhere. Discounts - Ugh! - Don't Be FooledMost of the discounted boots that call themselves ugg are actually fake,
constructed from man made synthetics rather than authentic Australian or
New Zealand sheepskin, but this hasn't stopped most consumers from
cashing in on the discounts, which is one reason uggs have gotten such a
bad name. A fake ugh just won't last as long, and certainly won't fit as
well as the authentic boot. If you're looking for a boot that's truly
been discounted, look for the real deal.
